Beat The Clock

LISTEN AND VOTE HERE

So, today I took part in a competition being run by Ableton called Beat The Clock.

Basically, the contest states that you have to finish a track (with the stems they provided) within 24 hours. I finished mine in about 11 hours.

Anyway, the system for winning is a voting system (which I kinda hate, but that’s how it is), and the 1st place prize is a trip to Berlin to meet Ableton & SoundCloud + Ableton upgrades free for life + SoundCloud Pro account for 5 years and an APC40!

So if you’re in Europe, this is good thing! It means I’ll most likely play some shows closer to you than I’ve ever been before!

I really hate to ask people to vote for me, it seems kind of lame, but apparently that’s how good music is judged these days, so if you could go and vote that would be awesome.

I’m also going to give a free wav download of the track to anyone that votes, so if you vote for me, send me an email at mrbill [at] mrbillstunes [dot] com or through my FaceBook page and let me know and i’ll send you the track. I’m just going to go off an honesty based system here, so if you tell me you voted for it I’ll just believe you and give you the download link anyway, but please actually do vote if you can!

Additionally, if you can share this idea around to other people that would be much appreciated!

Cheers,
Bill.

Remix Stems!

So I’ve decided to release the stems for Rolled Oats and Staunch for free. This is not a remix competition as there is nothing to be won, and I will not be judging which one is the ‘best’. However, I will be posting all remixes here on Mr. Bill’s Tunes.

Download the stems for Rolled Oats Here

Downloads the stems for Staunch Here

I’m definitely interested to hear what you do with them! Send all results to mrbill@mrbillstunes.com or post them as a comment below. A link allowing me to download the 16bit mastered wav file is preferred.

There is no time limit on when you must submit this remix. However, I will be posting them all up on the 1st of September. So, if you’re keen to have your remix posted you have eight weeks to submit it. The naming convention should be “Mr. Bill – ‘Track Name’ (‘Artist Name’ Remix)”.

Here are the original tunes:

Mastering Competition

Click here to download the file (you may need to right-click and save it). It’s called “Mr. Bill – Psy (Mastering Exercise).wav”

The idea is to master the file as if you were getting it ready to be released on CD.

This requires, topping and tailing of the file, getting rid of any unwanted noise, treating any other issues you can hear, making it as phat as possible yet still retaining cleanliness and detail, and finally rendering it to a 44.1k, 16bit file.

How you do it is up to you, try whatever you like, if it sounds good then it’s good!
Also you should show us all how you achieved your result, either by saving your project and uploading it (minus the audio file, seems we can just load that in ourselves), or simply by writing and reporting with what you did to mrbill@mrbillstunes.com (I will make a blog post with everyones results after the competition is over). This way we all have fun, we all learn, everyone wins.

The winner (chosen by myself and a few other people) will gain “Hardcore Abletoneer” status at www.mrbillstunes.com for life, this enables you to all of my albums, unreleased tunes, unreleased tutorials, sample packs etc, and anything new I put up in the future for life!

The more the merrier, so inform some people also. Keen to see what you guys come up with!

I’ll set the submission date for 01.01.2011, thats almost 3 months to allow for ear fatigue, multiple sessions, busy schedules and such.

Submit your 44.1kHz, 16bit .wav files to mrbill@mrbillstunes.com with your session or alternatively a text file explaining what you did.
Also to make it fair on everyone, only Ableton Native plugins are allowed. That way we are all on the same ground, no one has an advantage over anyone else.

Cheers,
Bill.
