So, I reached 10,000 followers on Facebook a few days ago. First of all, huge thank you! I’m beyond stoked with how many people are reacting to this project, it’s really heart warming. Secondly, I’d tried a few things in the past in returns for likes, for example, I’ve tried saying things like ‘Hey, share this status and get people to like this page and when I reach ‘x’ arbitrary number, I’ll release a free tune etc’ or something like that. A lot of artists do this kind of thing, it’s not abnormal, however, I noticed every time I did this that my page would go down in likes (only by around 3-5 likes). So, rather than telling anyone I’d do anything for 10,000 likes, I ran a secret competition, where the 10,000th like on http://www.facebook.com/mrbillartist gained free, 32 bit, Hardcore Ableonteer status FOR LIFE! Congratulations to Noga Che CircoLand for being the 10,000th person to like my page and win this awesome prize! You may be reading this thinking “Yeah, yeah.. come on, Bill. Get to the damn point.”. So, here it is. I wanted to make this post in particular to mention that I’ll be running secret competitions randomly from now on without telling anyone about it. Basically, it’ll always be based on something to do with interaction via social media. So for instance, you may be the 100th person to comment on a new tune on SoundCloud, or you may be the next person to tweet a specific word or number I’m thinking to me (that one could go on for a few years, hehe), etc. The fun is, you won’t know when it will be, or even what it will be. So one day you may just be interacting with me on social media, and bam, you’ll get a prize! I thought this was a fun idea, so I’ll continue doing it. Please leave your thoughts in the comments below

The post 10,000 Followers! was written by Mr. Bill and appeared first on Mr. Bill's Tunes.

I wasn’t sure what to do with it up until about a week or two ago, but it seemed fitting for this occasion If you haven’t yet checked out Freddy Todd, he’s worth having a listen to! Amazing music. Check it out here - https://soundcloud.com/freddytodd You may remember him from the collaboration EP we did a few months ago, titled’ Gourmet Everything’ on Adapted Records. You can download it for free here if you haven’t got it yet: Or download the remix of Blapdillions here: Or download both!

So, today I released a track I wrote (for free) for a company called Glitchmachines who release sample packs and plug-ins and such based around glitch music! Really cool stuff. Check them out here - http://www.glitchmachines.com/shop/ Essentially, they were founded in 2005 by sound designer Ivo Ivanov, who has done work with people like Trent Reznor (from Nine Inch Nails) and Richard Devine, and closely worked with companies such as Twisted Tools (another amazing glitch-based company). Anyway. This was a real pleasure for me to be apart of. The tune I’ve written here, is comprised of about 70% Fragment samples. Definitely a worthy sample pack! Really cheap, too. Only $9!

So it’s been about 13 hours since I uploaded my Veil of Maya remix. After I uploaded it, I went to sleep, then was overwhelmed with e-mail (which is awesome) of people loving the remix when I woke up. Absolutely stoked with how many plays, download & just general amount of attention this track is getting, so I must say thank you Veil of Maya have posted it on their Facebook (which is what gave it this much attention, obviously), and I’m incredibly thankful for that. As a result it’s had about 4.3k plays in 13 hours (which is amazing for me!). So, once again, thank you very much everyone I’m really stoked right now.

So, today I finished off my Veil of Maya remix, which I had an amazingly fun time doing. I figured, seems it’s so crazy, I might as well point out some of the techniques used in this remix, and some of the problems I had and how I overcame them. Problem 1: Tempo changes: There’s 15 of them. Solution: I just had to keep setting the minimum and maximum points that I could move the tempo and just really carefully move it around into place. It was certainly tricky and time consuming getting all the tracks to sit correctly on the grid doing this. Problem 2: Key changes: There’s a lot of them, too. Solution: There was really no way to do this other than just listen to the notes being played, and to try and replicate them to the best of my ability. At times I’d just cut a small chunk from the original tune, and listen to one note at a time to try and get it right (specifically in the piano section where I replicated the melody from ‘It’s not safe to swim today’. Problem 3: Time signature changes: There’s at least 20 of them. Solution: At the beginning of this remix, I was following the time signature changes by inserting time signature change markers within live, but I got sick of doing this, and it was really tricky, so I ended up just using either 2/8 or 1/8, so it wouldn’t really sound weird when I had the click on, and I could still feel the parts out. Problem 4: Groove changes: There’s at least 20 of these, too. Solution: Once again, I just had to feel these out. No time signature changes, just messing with elements on the grid to the best of my ability. However, there were times where It’d change groove, then all the beats wouldn’t be on a solid grid, so I’d have a hard time lining them up with anything. The way I fixed this was to just create a time signature change at 1/8 again, and that would re-set the grid from that point in the song so it just looked ok again and was easier for my brain to process. Problem 5: Track Selection: There’s sections from about 15 of their tunes. Solution: So, I wasn’t sure which track to remix initially, so I decided, ‘Why not do all of them at once?’. The way I did this, was I loaded their discography into Live, then simply listened to all the tune, and picked out all the parts I liked, and once I’d used a tune, I coloured it red, so I was able to see that it had been used, and that I wouldn’t use it again (seems there was so many parts to choose from, I didn’t want to neglect one song and favour another). Hopefully this post is helpful. If you have any questions, feel free to comment below and I’ll get back to you.

The post Veil Of Maya – Discography (Mr. Bill Remix) was written by Mr. Bill and appeared first on Mr. Bill's Tunes.

I should really change the name of this series to something more appropriate like ‘silly statements’ or something. There are some questions in there, so it’s certainly relevant. Anyway, this hands down takes the cake for the most epic hate-mail I’ve ever received. So, here it goes. I’m just posting the screen-grabs of the (pretty one-sided) SoundCloud conversation.
